If you’d told me two years ago when I designed the Miracle Shape top, that I would have built up a following of clients, who would respond the way you all respond, whenever I make a new collection of these tops, I don’t think I would have believed it.
It is a dream come true, to know that every time I go fabric shopping, and I put this incredibly rewarding shape into production, you all respond exactly as I dreamt it, with such gratitude.
It is such a privilege to be doing what I’m doing…every.single.day.

In the past two weeks, I have come to REALLY understand the law of attraction.
I could never have imagined that putting a picture of myself (very apprehensively), doing Pilates in a pair of Hayley Joy, Plus size, Active wear leggings, would unleash this kind of reaction.
I live my life based on a very simple philosophy…exactly what you put out, is exactly what you get back. I’ve proved it over and over again to myself, that in it’s simplicity, this philosophy is the most simple path to follow, but sometimes the most difficult one to embrace.
I am a Plus size woman, who designs and manufactures Plus size fashion, and yet I struggle to put myself out there as the face of the brand. Why? I don’t have an answer to that question, I guess it’s because I’m a woman with issues, simply put!! But these two weeks have enabled me to have an answer, for what happens when you do put yourself out there, and that is that the rewards are enormous.
I have communicated with women from all over the world, who have come forward and shared their frustrations around being Plus size, and being so frustrated at the lack of availability of respectful Plus size fashion, and especially Plus size Activewear.
I’ve also had an amazingly rewarding time, doing a lot of one-on-one consultations with new clients, who have come to the store because they read my story. I laughed with them, and I cried with them, but most importantly I established a trust with them. In honouring myself, I have proved that I honoured them as women first, and that there is no judgement at Hayley Joy. Your size is of no importance to me, my sole mission is to provide you with a wardrobe of respectfully designed clothing, that makes you feel respected as a woman.
Stepping out of my comfort zone as an entrepreneur is one thing, but it’s stepping out as a woman with body image issues, that has unleashed the greatest rewards of gratitude. I have been completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of gratitude and it has inspired me to keep pushing the boundaries, because I’ve proved with this new little venture, that there are no limits, the only limits are the ones we put on ourselves.
I am in awe of the gratitude. Thank you to all of you who have supported my quest to make a difference, and there are MANY of you.
Brave, because posting a photo of myself on social media, is a huge step out of my comfort zone, and proud because this photo is the beginning of a whole new venture…Hayley Joy Miracle Active wear has been born.
Exercising is not my thing, I don’t yearn to run, skip and jump, but I know that it’s important for me to move. After all the years of being bent over a cutting table making patterns, my muscles were shrunken and inactive. At a very bad stage in my life, when I was in so much pain I could barely move, I was introduced to Linda Green who owns My Pilates. After much convincing (MUCH), she convinced me to give Pilates a try, and 3 years later I diligently go and stretch my painful body.
Being overweight doesn’t help my cause, but it is what it is, and I cannot allow that to be an excuse to not do some form of exercise.
Now comes the big question…what to wear! I have had this conversation in-store and online for a while, and it has set me on a very determined path. I started researching, and to my horror I have discovered that if you want to make an effort to be healthy, you are in trouble from the word go, because there is very little (if any), respectfully designed exercise wear out there, for Plus size women. Our needs are VERY different, and you cannot take normal size exercise wear, and ‘Upsize’ it. We need more fabric at the top of the pants, because if you have a tummy and a generous behind, a hipster cut crutch is definitely not going to be appropriate. There is nothing worse than spending an hour pulling your pants up because they keep rolling down under your tummy, and the appropriate tops are non-existent.
My commitment to all things Plus size has inspired me to develop a range of active wear so that no size is excluded from exercise.
I am about to embark on a very exciting design journey, and I am starting off by sharing a photo of me in the very first pair of Plus size, genuine Lycra, leggings. I have done a full hours Pilates class in them, and oh my word, they are AMAZING!! No rolling down, no cutting into my waist, they are just perfect.
Watch this space, I’m on an ‘Active’ mission!!
Honoured and privileged for the acknowledgement and affirmation, for my commitment to making a difference in the lives of women, of all shapes and sizes.
My committment to changing perceptions about Odd and Plus sizes, is unwavering, and this is a wonderful reward for that commitment, from The Saturday Star.
I am so grateful for my ability to design and manufacture ranges of clothing, that make a difference in the lives of so many women. Together with my amazing team, I am living a dream that has no limits.
With our newly launched online store http://hayleyjoy.com my dream of reaching so many more of you is such a wonderful reality.
Being able to dress any size, and any shape, in my Plus size collections, is the highlight of my design career. When I opened Hayley Joy, I was determined to create an environment, where every woman felt welcome and respected.
My brief to Hayley Joy production was that every style I designed and put into production, had to be able to be sized from a Small to a 7XL, so when we worked on the new Miracle Swing camisole, I held my thumbs that it would look amazing on all sizes.
This photo of Veronica who is one of my oldest and dearest customers, proves that we are absolutely on the right track. I’m loving every minute of pushing the design boundaries for Plus sizes…NOTHING.IS.IMPOSSIBLE, and Veronica is the perfect example of that philosophy.
A recurring request is for a Plus size sleeveless garment that is respectful to odd and Plus size shapes.
What is that requirement? Well it’s all in the armholes. I have patiently engineered the armholes on this garment. The secret is that all the bits need to be tucked away, so that we wear a sleeveless garment comfortably, without worrying about who can see what, hanging out.
I’m extremely proud of this Miracle camisole shape, that I’ve introduced to the Hayley Joy collection. It does everything it needs to do. I’ve kept the top semi fitted, and swung from the waist to allow for ease of wear.
Whilst working on this shape, I came to understand, that it is important to take into account, that there are many Plus size women whose arms are perfectly acceptable, and there are also those woman who have learnt to embrace their shapes, and are far more concerned about being cool, than what yours and my opinion of their arms are. It’s for this reason that I designed this respectful garment in two lengths. There is normal camisole length and then I’ve introduced a length that’s just on the knee, and works brilliantly as a costume cover, or is perfect over leggings. It’s a fun look, and one that I know you will enjoy wearing, from a comfort perspective.
Exciting times in Hayley Joy production…we’ve been developing a new shape, the Hayley Joy Miracle Flare Top, to add to our Plus size Miracle top collection.
With this style, my brief to my production team was ‘Ethereal’, I wanted something floaty but flattering. The challenge is always to be able to size from a Small to a 7XL without losing the aesthetic. My commitment is that every style must be able to be produced in all sizes. I also wanted a different sleeve design, I wanted a beautiful floaty sleeve, that would look feminine, be flattering, and above all else, be cool.
Huge advantage to being the in-house model…I get to try all new samples on. I’ve tried it on, and it’s a winner. I loved the feel of this top and I know you’re going to love it.
How do I explain to you via a social media post, how incredible the fit of this very simple Plus size, Miracle Shape top is? The best I can do is post this photo, and tell you that after all these years, I still marvel at how the simplest of fabrics and designs still have the ability to blow me away.
When I first tried it on, my instant reaction was…wow look at how much shape I have, even after a ‘bit of a fall off the weight bus, winter’…eeeek!!
The fabric is definitely the reason for the wonderful fit. It is lightweight and has a slinky feel to it, but it doesn’t cling.
I’ve kept the design very simple and am letting the fabric shine this time. If you’re looking for a simple, casual, comfortable top for everyday, this is it.
For those of you who have already bought it, thank you for the feedback and I’m glad you are enjoying the simplicity and comfort.
I enjoy leading and learning, and am privileged to have nurtured a team, who are comfortable to give me constructive feedback that I continuously learn from.
Allowing my team members to express themselves and to actively participate in making decisions about fabric, designs and the final look and feel of collections, has proved to me that the Boss doesn’t always have to make all the decisions. Some of our most successful designs have come from input from the seamstresses who vary in age from 30 – 60 years old.
For so long I did this alone, now working as a team, is so much more rewarding than working solo.
